Burgh Bowls Club
Burgh reached the final of the Badley Cup 2016 so on Sat 28th Aug Burgh travelled to play Alford at the neutral ground at North Sommercoates.
Burgh Bowls Club (BBC) was formed in 1935 and continues today in the present clubhouse at
the end of Jacksons Lane, Burgh Le Marsh where disabled toilets and new heating/air conditioning
has just been installed.
"I took up bowls and joined the BBC in 1997 when I retired and have found it an excellent way of
keeping mentally and physically fit and well. Our members range in age from 16 - 80+, admittedly
only one player is aged 16 but she brings our average age down a treat!
As you get older you need gentle exercise and a game of bowls certainly gives you that, with the
added bonus of fresh air, maintaining eye to hand co-ordination, judging distance and speed and
looking for the right line on the green (perhaps the hardest to master).
You can either go on to play matches in the local leagues, which might bring out your competitive
streak or just 'bowl socially' as it is known. So if you are sitting around feeling bored and want
a new interest in life, join the BBC today and make those new friends, take up that new interest, keep
fit and maintain a healthier way of life and have fun doing it.
New members and beginners are welcome and training can be given."
